Digital music offering from Tesco

17 April 2008

A brand new digital download service has been created by Tesco in the UK in an attempt to compete with iTunes.

Various forms of media are set to be offered with the Tesco Digital brand, the firm revealed, such as films, games and music.

At first, the retailer is due to offer more than three million audio tracks on top of a number of games in the flash format.

"We are starting out with a comprehensive music offering, but customers can expect downloadable TV and films as well as games to buy very soon," asserted Commercial Director at Tesco Graham Harris.

He added that the organisation is "delighted" to be offering MP3 capabilities, something that it had never done in the past.

The digital element of the business is likely to be expanded in the months ahead, Mr Harris added.
