Orange 'missing a broadband trick'

25 April 2008

Opportunities are not being taken by the mobile operator Orange in the broadband sector, it has been claimed this week.

Steven Hartley, a senior analyst at Ovum, suggested that the service provider has hiked fees over the odds for those using mobile high-speed internet, reports Marketing Week.

The company ought to branch out and place more emphasis upon mobile capabilities rather than fixed broadband, Mr Hartley stated.

He said: "Orange is missing a major opportunity due to a strategic emphasis on fixed broadband, combined with almost no marketing and exorbitant pricing for its mobile broadband offering."

And he added that he believes charges being incurred by customers are higher than the advertised price Orange stipulates, with a monthly price of £29.99 for mobile solutions (£25 in the business sector).

So-called customised products have helped to improve the growth in the broadband market in the European Union, Frost & Sullivan said recently.
