Broadband use 'will increase charges'

29 April 2008

Higher broadband costs could become commonplace if more entertainment services are accessed in this fashion, it has been claimed.

Editor of thinkbroadband.com Andrew Ferguson has said recently that if consumers decide to use the medium for television and radio, then increased costs will probably be the outcome.

But he also suggested that service providers should be more transparent when revealing what they believe customers will use connections for.

"In short, a cheap as chips unlimited connection is not going to give people the ability to do vastly more than a similar priced product with a clearly specified usage allowance generally," he commented.

He added that some consumers may no longer see the need for peer-to-peer networks, should more content be offered free of charge on broadband.

The BBC should pay for alterations that are needed to the internet due to massive demand for applications such as the iPlayer, Tiscali has said recently.
