Vodafone mobile broadband coverage extended

Internet service provider (ISP) Vodafone has announced the extension of its mobile broadband coverage.

Some three million people in six of the UK's main urban areas are to receive "fast and reliable" mobile broadband through a multi-million pound investment.

Vodafone notes that this follows an agreement being formed with BT to ensure it can deliver a better mobile service than its competitors.

Nick Read, chief executive officer of Vodafone UK, says: "The recent acceleration in the take-up of mobile broadband has demonstrated just how hungry consumers are for internet access wherever they are."

"As a result we are significantly investing in our network," he adds, suggesting that improvements should increase the number of people with access to mobile broadband.

Vodafone says that, starting in June, it is to provide more realistic information of the download times its customers should expect for different kinds of file.

By using the agreement with BT, the ISP predicts it should be able to deliver "backhaul speeds" of up to 60 Mbps.
