Wholesale broadband regulations in the UK have been lifted in some areas by the regulator Ofcom.
It claimed that a good proportion of the market could be aided and that more investment chances would be possible after the move.
Deregulation will take place in various areas, Ofcom revealed, such as those where four or more service providers are operational.
Chief Executive at Ofcom Ed Richards argued that the sector in Britain will be given a great boost following the changes.
"This is a major step forward in the UK broadband market reflecting the success we have had in promoting effective competition," he commented.
He added that the developments are proof that Ofcom is willing to step in and make services fairer for the general public.
Last week, a report from Ofcom suggested that rural homes are more likely to have a broadband connection than those in cities.
