London 'has quickest download speeds'

4 June 2008

Computer users in the capital can obtain faster broadband speeds than people elsewhere in the country, according to a new study.

Digital download speeds for users in London are twice as fast as they are for computer users in Northern Ireland, thinkbroadband.com claimed.

Average download speeds in the southern city stood at 4,460kbps, while the north-east came in second place with a figure of 3,594kbps.

Editor of the organisation that carried out the survey Andrew Ferguson suggested that some of the same old problems still persist in the broadband sector.

"A divide does exist in broadband speeds - those in dense urban areas and those in rural areas," he commented.

He added that problems with the broadband line and its length can also be solved in the future but consumers want access to cheap services and technology costs money.

A church spire may be used in Pembrokeshire as service providers attempt to boost coverage in the area, it was discovered last week.
