Consumers 'dissatisfied' with broadband speeds

11 July 2008

Many consumers are not satisfied with the speed of their broadband service, new research from uSwitch.com has revealed. According to the comparison site, seven million broadband customers in the UK can only receive speeds of up to 6Mb. And 28% of broadband users are not happy with the speed of their service. Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch.com, called on the government to invest more money into the infrastructure of broadband in the UK and "steer the UK back into the broadband race". Furthermore, referring to Ofcom's new Code of Practice he added that he hoped more companies will "follow the example of O2 to ensure that customers only pay for a speed that their line can support". Recently, the chief executive of Ofcom Ed Richards said the new voluntary guidelines will provide companies with support for establishing improved broadband services.
