Telecommunications firm Orange has revealed that 44,000 of its broadband customers ended their contracts in the first half of this year. Announcing its latest results, the broadband provider said it was now left with 1.06 million customers signed up to its ADSL offering, the Register reports. This comes as other major broadband providers are maintaining steady growth in new subscriptions, despite the ongoing credit crunch and its impact on consumer spending. Recent research from the internet service provider Plusnet revealed that only 3% of broadband customers would give up their connection in order to save money. The research also showed that almost four in ten plan to look for a cheaper tariff if the credit crunch continues. This suggests that instead of abandoning broadband services altogether, Orange customers may simply be looking elsewhere for new deals. Meanwhile, Virgin Media is planning to offer its customers broadband speeds of up to 200 megabits per second by 2012.
