Consumers switching broadband providers to save money

10 September 2008

As rising living costs put a strain on household budgets, increasing numbers of consumers are signing up to new broadband deals in a bid to save money, research shows. According to the cashback network froggybank.co.uk, 8.5 per cent more people switched broadband providers between May and July this year than they did during the same period in 2007. Marketing manager Nadeem Azam said that while consumers are not yet prepared to give up their broadband connections, they are increasingly looking for ways to "cut the cost of staying online, connected and entertained". "At froggybank.co.uk we are expecting to see this kind of switching continuing in the months to come," he remarked. Bundled deals proved particular popular during the period, with the number of consumers buying their broadband, digital TV and landline service from the same provider rising by 7.5 per cent over the year. Recent research commissioned by the internet service provider Plusnet revealed that only 3% of broadband users would give up their connection to save money.
