Internet service provider Virgin has announced plans to cut the cost of mobile broadband for its existing fixed-line customers. For an additional £5 a month and a one-off fee of £25 for a USB modem, Virgin customers will be able to add mobile broadband to their current bundles. The one gigabyte service is usually available for £10 a month. Graeme Oxby, Virgin Media's Managing Director for Mobile, said: "Our mobile broadband is great for people who need home broadband but also want access to the internet on the move." He said the new bundle offer provides "exceptional value" and means that even if consumers go over their monthly data allowance - for which they will be charged £1.46 per megabyte - they will still be paying significantly less than they would on other mobile broadband packages. Industry watchers Analysys Mason predicted recently that one quarter of households with fixed-line broadband connections will be using mobile broadband only by 2013.
