Broadband now accounts for the vast majority of internet connections in the UK, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The data shows that approximately 95% of all internet users are now on broadband, while dial-up services continue to decline.
In the three months to September, broadband connections increased by 7.6%, while dial-up connections fell by 50% during the same period.
Internet speeds have also received a boost, with 57% of connections offering speeds of two megabits per second in September - up two per cent on June's figure.
The ONS said: "The market share of broadband connections has been increasing since the index began in 2001, reflecting its continuing popularity, widespread availability and increasingly competitive connection packages."
Meanwhile, mobile internet use increased by a quarter during the third quarter of the year, according to a new report by Nielsen.
This was driven by demand for up-to-the-minute information on weather, sports and current affairs, the analyst firm said.
