There will be enough demand from consumers in the UK to make investment in high-speed broadband worthwhile, it has been claimed.
According to a member of the parliamentary information technology committee, next-generation broadband will become a reality despite concerns over who will pay for it.
"Obviously there is a whole range of issues on how and when, but I think the demand is going to be there," said Labour MP Nick Palmer.
He explained that a lot of new applications and internet services are emerging across the world and British consumers will want to be a part of them.
His comments come after communications regulator Ofcom launched a new code of conduct for internet service providers regarding the speed of the broadband connections.
It requires those signed up to the code to provide customers with an accurate picture of the speeds they can expect to enjoy on their broadband line.
Broadband customers should compare packages online to make sure they are getting the best deal.
