Savers using broadband to make financial decisions

10 December 2008

As consumers rein in their spending and look to save more, many are using broadband internet to research their savings options, according to a new survey.

Alliance & Leicester Savings found that almost half of all savers make decisions about which products to choose and which savings strategies to adopt through the web.

Furthermore, some 70% of those questioned said they use broadband to manage their savings accounts, while 61% said they make online applications.

Hetal Parmar, Manager for Savings at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Our research shows that people are trying to become more financially astute and many are doing it for themselves by researching online."

He pointed out that personal finance forums and price comparison sites have made it easier for consumers to find the information they are looking for and get a good deal.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that approximately 95% of all internet users are now on broadband.

Consumers eager to start researching financial products should ensure they are getting the best broadband deal by comparing packages online.
