Broadband customers 'can save by switching'

16 February 2009

Broadband customers may be losing out on savings by failing to shop around for more competitive plans, it has been claimed.

According to an article in the Daily Mail, getting to grips with broadband plans can be confusing, but taking time out to compare deals could pay dividends.

Writing for the newspaper, personal finance reporter Jo Thornhill said research shows that millions of internet users do not bother to shop around for alternative packages when their broadband contract comes to an end.

"But this apathy means they often miss out on hundreds of pounds worth of savings each year," she stressed.

Indeed, she pointed out that many companies now offer bundled deals, which allow households to take out home phone services, digital TV and broadband together.

She said customers should take a number of factors into consideration when choosing a broadband package.

These include the speed of access they require, how much they intend to use the internet and whether they wish to lock themselves into a long-term contract.

According to a report by Ofcom, there are now almost 17 million broadband lines in the UK.
