Most of UK 'to have 32Mbps broadband speeds within ten years'

Broadband communication services information provider Point-Topic has issued its predictions for the future of internet usage.

According to the group, more than 90% of UK homes will have broadband access within ten years - and the majority of these households will benefit from internet speeds of 32Mbps.

Chief Analyst at the organisation Tim Johnson believes industry representatives must work together with the government to make this happen.

"There needs to be a strong commitment to universal service and serious investment in getting no-net homes online," he explained.

Even though it would appear to be a "big step", achieving this is "one of the best things" the UK could do to restructure its economy, he added.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics recently suggest the UK is moving in the right direction in this regard.

Apparently, web access via broadband now accounts for 19 out of every 20 connections made in the country.
