The government is likely to find it difficult to increase broadband speeds to 2Mbps in some parts of the UK, it is claimed. PointTopic, the broadband thinktank, says several areas of the UK are not equipped to deal with such speeds, with Northern Ireland being the least likely to cope with demand. "Towns such as Basingstoke and Milton Keynes which people might expect to be well-connected have notspots," says Tim Johnson, Chief Analyst with Point Topic. He adds that co-operation is needed between broadband providers and the government in order for the plans to be a success. PointTopic also pointed out that homes in Wales are potentially out-of-range, with 26.9% unable to get speeds of 2Mbps or higher. Last year, it was revealed that people in the UK are spending more time using communications services than ever before, but paying less for them, according to a report published by Ofcom. If you want to pay less for your broadband package, uSwitch.com will be able to help.
