Internet 'at the forefront of family life'

6 May 2009

An increasing number of families are relying on the internet, with people of all ages getting involved, figures show.

The latest Digital Families report issued by O2 shows 3.4 million parents now use social networking sites, with people generally becoming more aware of the technology available to them.

Alistair Johnston, Marketing Director at Telefonica O2 UK, comments: "This report reveals just how pervasive technology now is within UK homes."

He adds that using technology is crucial to "helping families better manage their hectic lives, but also ultimately in being able to spend more time together".

Additional statistics show 67% of people are reluctant to cut back on using the internet because of the credit crunch, compared to 24% who would not want to reduce their weekly food shop.

O2 recently launched its Joggler, which it dubs as the digital evolution of the family wall calendar.
