The government's decision to roll-out 2Mbps broadband across the country lacks ambition, one organisation has suggested.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said two-thirds of companies already have speeds of 2Mbps in place, meaning the targets outlined in the Digital Britain report are not forward-thinking enough.
"By 2012, £1 in every £5 will come from online commerce, but if small businesses are to compete, the government must take bolder action," revealed John Wright, National Chairman of the FSB.
He suggested that many companies are looking for minimum speeds of 8Mbps to be made available to all to make their day-to-day business quicker and more efficient.
Under chapter one of the Digital Britain Report, the government proposed to impose a levy of 50p per month on all fixed copper lines.
