Businesses enjoying faster broadband speeds

10 October 2008

UK businesses are enjoying faster broadband speeds, with one quarter now benefiting from a package offering more than ten megabytes per second. This is the conclusion of a new survey by Point Topic, which reveals that compared to last October, 7% more companies are now signed up to such packages. Furthermore, 15% are now subscribing to super-fast broadband connections and enjoying speeds of 50 megabytes per second or more, the research shows. According to Point Topic, business applications such as video conferencing and Voice over IP are driving demand for faster broadband speeds. Some 45% of those questioned said they expect to require faster connections within the next two years, said senior analyst Tim Johnson. In other broadband news, Tesco is reportedly considering a move into the mobile broadband market. Lance Batchelor, Chief Executive of Tesco Mobile, told Mobile Today that the supermarket chain has not made any firm commitments, but added that the infrastructure is available to offer such a product.
