Virgin Media has been rapped after claiming that its broadband services could deliver faster download speeds that are not correct. Such a move happened after fellow service provider BT made a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), suggesting that the timings were not accurate. BT said that the advertised figures were false because Virgin Media caps download speeds at the busiest times. Looking into the alleged problems, the ASA noted that a "proportion" of customers with Virgin Media had seen slow download times. In response to this, Virgin Media defended its services and stated that it gave consumers a clear insight into what it offered. "We believe our Hate to Wait? campaign provided a simple and transparent comparison between broadband speeds for consumers looking to choose between Virgin Media's M, L and XL broadband packages," the firm commented. Virgin Media had previously revealed that only people using the 2Mbps services would be hit by the capping regulations. The organisation claims that it is the first outfit in the UK to offer a number of services such as broadband and mobile together.
