Thunder and lightning spooked just 7% of motorists, while fewer still were troubled by high winds (2%) and glaring sunshine (2%).</p><p>Comma recommended that motorists only drive when "confident of their ability to control the vehicle in the conditions surrounding them" and that by adopting a "heightened sense of caution" and maintaining a sensible gap from the vehicle in front in poor weather would help to keep them safe.</p><p>Wintry weather not only puts drivers' premiums at risk through dangerous driving conditions, but also encourages thieves to steal valuable items from the car according to Sainsbury's Car Insurance.</p><p>"We are concerned that the predicted extreme cold weather will result in more people taking this risk and becoming victims of frosting," warned Richard Clark, manager at Sainsbury's Car Insurance.</p><p>According to insurer's figures, in the last five years over 120,000 people are likely to have suffered from "frosting" – the name given to the theft of an unattended car while the engine is warming up.</p><p>uSwitch.com has plenty of information on <a href="http://www.uswitch.com/Car-Insurance/Car-Insurance-In-The-UK.html">car insurance in the UK and can also help you find the right deal.
