<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>The Association of British Insurers (ABI) announced yesterday that, for the first time in 15 years, the way in which cars are banded for insurance premiums is to endure a huge shake-up which will see cars more likely to cause or suffer damage experience higher premiums.</p><p>&#39;Chelsea Tractors&#39; including Range Rovers, BMW X5s and Toyota Land Cruisers are all likely to cost more to insure after the changes, which will see insurance being based on the likelihood of a car being damaged in a crash - or damaging another car - and the likely cost of repair.</p><p>Other cars likely to be caught by the new rulings include sporty hatchbacks and some mid-range vehicles due to the fact that many have extra torque for more &quot;pulling power&quot; which results in additional bouts of speed.</p><p>The ABI told the Daily Mail that the weight of the vehicle would also be taken into account as, in the ABI&#39;s view, the heavier the vehicle is, the greater the potential for the driver to be liable for injury or damage to third parties in a collision.</p><p>&quot;Examples [of cars to be affected by the changes] are certain 4x4s that, although sustaining little damage themselves in a collision, can inflict considerable injury and/or damage to others,&quot; the organisation said.</p><p>Driver history, age, where the car is located and how it is used will still be considered when working out an insurance premium according to the ABI.</p><p>The cost of car insurance varies widely but you can still get yourself a good deal.
