A new programme of events supported by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is being run to improve road safety among young drivers.
Starting yesterday and running until April 29th, the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week will be aspiring to educate young drivers more thoroughly and therefore reduce the incidents of accidents among the young.
Kevin Clinton, Head of Road Safety at RoSPA, said the week of events could "serve as inspiration for new and effective road safety initiatives in the years ahead".
He added: "The UK has a very good road safety record, but we know there are many improvements which can still be made."
Mr Clinton also said that with 90% of accidents occurring among young drivers in developing countries, the challenges faced were "even tougher for many nations".
It is believed that nearly 1.2 million fatalities occur on roads around the world each year as a result of traffic accidents, with up to 50 million non-fatal injuries also being reported.
