As the new '08' car registration plates are due out next week, uSwitch is advising motorists that it is currently the ideal time to shop around for insurance deals.
According to uSwitch, car owners should consider a variety of issues when choosing a policy, such as how providers factor in a new car's depreciation as part of the write-off value.
The comparison service also recommends that drivers should not be "tempted" to take advantage of providers' marketing gimmicks unless they have compared them with other offers available and ensured the deal meets their needs.
At the same time, uSwitch warns against committing to deals that may discourage shopping around for a better offer, such as those that cap premiums for new customers to encourage them to sign up for a second year.
"Just because the cost of the average policy has gone up, it doesn't mean people can't still get a good deal if they shop around," uSwitch remarked.
The AA Pricing Index reveals that car insurance premiums have risen by nearly 6% over the past 12 months, which could add to the financial burden of those who own a vehicle.
