A high number of drivers would be worried if there vehicle failed while they were on their own, according to new findings from Britannia Rescue.
In total, two-thirds of those polled stated that this would be the case, while 93% of women noted that they would be "vulnerable" if this was to happen during the night, the firm claimed.
And 16% of motorists noted that they would not want another driver to stop and help them if they broke down.
Spokesperson for Britannia Rescue Andrew Beard urged drivers to take out adequate cover in case of emergencies such as this.
"It is surprising that many motorists don't take out breakdown cover or take any precautions before setting off. A year long breakdown policy could cost less than a week's grocery shopping, so it is cover well worth having," he commented.
Last week, Uswitch stated that motorists should shop around for the best car insurance deals, as the introduction of registration plates looms.
