People urged to get car insurance

Consumers in the south-west may be hit with large insurance hikes because of the recent gales and flooding, uSwitch.com has claimed.

The organisation claimed that home insurance premiums may increase in the area by 40% when people go to renew their policies.

Insurance Expert at uSwitch.com Ashton Berkhauer stated that it is vitally important adequate car insurance deals are taken out by individuals so that they are not disappointed.

"We shouldn't just be concerned about our homes. uSwitch.com data indicates that 1.7 million cars are also at risk of flood damage throughout the country. There are almost one million vehicles in the south-west with third-party cover only," he commented.

He added that these vehicles may not be covered if vehicles are hit by trees as a result of high winds.

During the second batch of storms to hit the UK, Northern Ireland has been pummelled with 80mph winds, forecasters said.
