Police 'will use keyhole cameras'

25 March 2008

Special cameras are set to be used by police officers in Scarborough in the effort to cut down on the number of accidents occurring there.

Keyhole cameras - placed on the helmet of an officer - are to be implemented so that North Yorkshire Police can look at the safety of the roads, reports the Scarborough Evening News.

Bikesafe coordinator at North Yorkshire police Sergeant Pete Mason stated that such technology can consider what led to an accident by analysing the road.

"The cameras provide a motorcyclist's view of the road and footage can be studied to establish what may have caused an accident or how road safety could be improved," he commented.

Such cameras are to be used as part of an overall campaign called Operation Anvil, which is looking to boost road safety matters and reduce crashes, something that could also impact favourably on driver's car insurance premiums.
