Fresh safety campaign launched in Scotland

28 March 2008

A new road safety campaign has been launched by police officers in Scotland in an attempt to cut down on the number of people hurt on the roads there, something that may interest those who wish to keep their car insurance premiums intact.

The scheme is to be targeted directly at rural roads in the country, because motorists there have been involved in a high number of accidents, according to the Press Association.

Fresh patrols are set to be instigated by the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS) for Awareness Weekend.

Jim Green, Assistant Chief Constable for Strathclyde and Secretary of the ACPOS Road Policing Business Area stated that the force will be urging all drivers not to speed as this is essential.

"The consequences of speeding are not only points on your licence and a fine but - especially if you don't wear your seatbelt - death or serious injury," he told the news source.

He added that drivers face a number of challenges on rural roads and thus is why they must stay focussed.

This week, uSwitch.com stated that drivers changing their car insurance policies are being hit with extra fees.
