Request for road changes denied

8 April 2008

New amendments to a stretch of road that has seen a number of incidents recently will not be made soon, it has been announced.

The local council had requested that Gloucestershire Highways implement the changes to road markings on the A417 but these have been turned down, reports the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.

A local at Ampney Crucis, Frank Skinner, said that when markings were repainted any errors should have been taken out - such as double white lines - but they were simply drawn out again, something that may impact of drivers' car insurance.

Gloucestershire Highways' official Jenny Watkins claimed that after an analysis of the road the organisation did not think changes were necessary.

"The assessment found that there was no case to support a change by increasing the length of double white lines, therefore the lining was reinstated as previously marked out," she told the publication.

Earlier this week it was revealed that children in Oxford have created a banner to warn their parents of dangers on the roads.
