Road campaign is successful

11 April 2008

A campaign in Wiltshire has met with success after road safety officials stated that a review of the A36 will take place.

Such issues were on the agenda at Clapmanslade Village Hall last week, which gained the support of a number of locals concerned about the roads, something that may have an impact on drivers' car insurance, reports the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham Times.

Now the Highways Agency has bowed down to pressure and said that road markings on the stipulated route will be looked at again.

Rachel Whitelock from the organisation noted that it will undertake an analysis of the section and its own views and carry out "a departure from our standards".

"We have to consider road schemes already operating in certain areas and we will have to wait for the work in Limpley Stoke to finish before the study is carried out," she told the news source.

In response to figures that showed the number of drivers being caught by speed cameras in Scotland has diminished, Director of the Scottish Safety Camera Programme Jim Dale said that motorists are becoming more safety conscious.
