Drivers in Cumbria have been urged to be extra cautious and not place expensive items on show when leaving their vehicles unattended.
Many cars have been the subject of attack in recent times, police said, with goods being taken, such as satellite navigation systems, reports the News & Star.
Other items pinched from cars have included money, mobile telephones, laptops, handbags and CD players, which may impact on drivers' car insurance.
Police Constable Andy Brown urged motorists to look after their belongings and to ensure that life is not made easy for any potential criminals.
He told the paper: "Some vehicles have been broken into recently even though the unit has been removed, probably because they can see the cradle or cables or the sticky mark where it was mounted."
In related news, a number of men in the Exmouth area have been arrested by police following a spate of car crimes.
