No claims bonus (NCB) protection on car insurance deals may come with hidden rules, a study has said this week.
The survey from esure Car Insurance found that of drivers who splash out on no claims discounts, 37% do not know they can only make a limited amount of claims.
But of motorists who do not take out such no claims protection, 32% think that they will never be the victim of unforeseen incidents, the organisation said.
Mike Pickard, Head of Risk and Underwriting at the firm, noted that many motorists are impacted upon because of accidents they cannot avoid.
"We have long believed there are millions of drivers who make a single claim and then find their discount reduced because of a second incident that may be beyond their control," he commented.
He added that individual drivers should check the small print in an attempt to see if the validity of protection will be undermined by more than one collision.
More car insurance can be earned by drivers with NCB deals if they are not in crashes for a certain period of time.
