Footballer visit after road safety schemes

28 April 2008

Youngsters at a Preston school were recently treated to a visit from a local football hero following a road safety initiative.

Simon Whaley, the Preston North End player, gave Kennington Primary School free match tickets after its dedication to safety issues was rewarded, reports the Preston Citizen.

Deputy Road Safety Group Manager Clare Farrer said that pupils have for some time been encouraged to participate in safety initiatives, something that could be good news for their future car insurance premiums.

"The school has taken part in the Right Start Child Pedestrian Training Programme and the Passport to Safer Cycling Scheme, which is part of the Journey's toolkit created by the Road Safety Group," she told the paper.

She added that the school's commitment to safety measures has so far proven to be "excellent" and has wanted to aid youngsters in their safety education.
