Dorset drivers warned over thefts

1 May 2008

Residents in Dorchester have been asked to remain vigilant after a series of car thefts there.

Various items have been taken from vehicles in the area, said Dorchester police Inspector Les Fry, such as a mobile telephone and a wallet, reports the Dorset Echo.

The officer urged locals to lock their cars in an attempt to beat the perpetrators of these crimes.

"All these incidents have been from insecure vehicles," he told the paper.

"People have a duty to look after their property and make sure it is safe."

Other valuables taken in the spate have included a walkman, bank cards and compact discs, something that could impact on car insurance premiums.

Individuals with information have been asked to get in contact with officers at Dorset police at the earliest opportunity.

Cameras were recently placed in cars in Morcambe to help the police catch those stealing from vehicles in the town. One thief was caught taking a satellite navigation device.
