Limit in Devizes 'may be reduced'

A campaign has begun to try and get the speed limit in one part of Wiltshire reduced after a number of speeding instances.

Devizes town council is set to try and the win the support of the county council in a bid to lower the limit on Bath Road to 20mph, reports This is Wiltshire.co.uk.

The council was prompted by local James Bates who suggested that the reduction could stop drivers from breaking the law, something that could also impact in people's car insurance premiums.

Councillor Paula Winchcombe stated that she understands the worries of locals but that changes may not be implemented.

"I can understand the frustration of people living in Bath Road but the recent traffic model for Devizes didn't suggest 20mph as an option," she told the publication.

A Wiltshire county council spokesman added that amendments to the stretch have already been carried out and that more action will be taken, such as the replacement of warning signs.
