Drivers in Solihull have been given an extra warning by police officers to slow down after the introduction of new speed cameras, something that could hit their car insurance premiums.
Three of the modern laser speed devices were bought by West Midlands police with a special grant and cost £10,000 each, reports the Birmingham Mail.
Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Infrastructure at Solihull council Ted Richards remarked that the cameras are a useful deterrent against poor driving.
"People deserve to be safe when they are travelling around our borough, which is why we are determined to crack down on speeding motorists who show a complete disregard for their own safety and that of others," he told the paper.
He said that the guns are being used as a partnership between the council and police officers.
Last week, a survey from RoadPilot LTD found that many British drivers feel that they are put off by the presence of cameras on the roads, rather than helped by them.
