'More research on zones needed'

11 June 2008

Further research should be carried out before the introduction of more 20 mph speed zones in the UK, it has been claimed this week.

Talking at a speed management conference, the Royal Automobile Club Foundation's Research Development Manager Elizabeth Dainton stated that speeding is just one of the elements that can result in accidents.

"It does not follow that 20 mph zones should be implemented in residential areas without adequate consideration being given to local circumstances and public opinion," she commented, something that could have an impact on car insurance premiums.

She added that reducing casualties is very important but that one solution for all problems is unlikely to work in the long run.

Education of drivers and further training are just as important in the drive to ensure that the situation on the roads improves, she stipulated.

Recently women said that they believe car insurance premiums alter vastly between different service providers, according to Swift Cover.
