Blackburn drivers 'arrested' over speed dodging

12 June 2008

A number of drivers in the Blackburn area have been apprehended by police for allegedly attempting to divert the blame over speed camera offences.

Police in the area stated that 15 individuals have been arrested after apparently trying to offload speed camera tickets, something that may have an impact on their car insurance, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

The operation to try and catch out such motorists was created by Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and Lancashire Constabulary.

Anyone who tries to dodge camera fines should note that more stringent regulations will be enforced in the future, warned Chief Inspector Terry Woods.

He told the news source: "This operation should demonstrate our determination to take firm action against anyone suspected of dishonestly avoiding liability for speed camera offences."

Those who are suspicious of people carrying out the same offences have been urged to get in contact with police or Crimestoppers as quickly as possible.

Earlier this week, Elizabeth Dainton from the Royal Automobile Club Foundation stated that more research needs to be undertaken before more 20 mph speed zones are put in place.
