Telford is 'car-friendly' capital

23 June 2008

Telford is the UK's new most car-friendly town, according to a recent poll by Virgin Money Car Insurance. The report by the car insurance provider revealed that the Shropshire town has now overtaken the city of Dundee as the best place in the UK for motorists. Scott Mowbray of Virgin Money claimed: "Although no town or city is perfect, thankfully there are still some pockets of the country that are still suitable for a Sunday drive." The number of car parks, petrol prices, level of car crime and cost of parking all contributed to Telford being rated most car-friendly town. Telford scored highly in all areas, the poll found, and was the best town for car parks out of the UK's 50 largest towns and cities. Recently, a road safety drive was implemented in Verwood, Shropshire, the Salisbury Journal reported.
