About £1 million has been handed out in fines to drivers for speeding in the Bracknell area over the past four years, it has been revealed. The Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership said that while a high number of motorists have opted to go on a safety course, rather than hand out money, the figure is still high, reports Get Bracknell. Between 2003 and 2008, a total of 33,663 drivers were snapped by speed cameras in Bracknell Forest, with half of these choosing to pay a £60 fine, the organisation noted, news that may concern those with car insurance. Spokesman for the company Dan Campsall claimed that speeding numbers are actually down on previous years. "The number of offences has fluctuated a bit over recent years but despite increases in enforcement over that period the most recent data shows a significant drop in the number of offences," he stated. Changes made to a road in the north-east (the A66) to make it safer were met with acclaim last week due to the regularity of accidents that have been seen there in the past.
