London 'most popular for car crime'

3 July 2008

A list of the most likely places where people could have their car and its belongings taken has been released by swiftcover.com. The firm said that the Ford Fiesta is most targeted by criminals, while the Volkswagon Golf is next on the list. And the most popular places where thieves strike to take vehicles are London, then the Midlands, followed by the north-west, the company added, something that could lead to car insurance claims. Switcover.com gave out a list of hints for drivers to follow if they want to ensure that they are not broken into, such as closing the sunroof. Claims Director at Swiftcover.com Robin Reames said that a high number of drivers still do not follow simple advice, which could save them a lot of hassle. "It's amazing how many people leave their keys in the ignition whilst de-frosting the car, or pop into the post office leaving their car windows open. It's just an open invitation to opportunistic thieves," he commented. This week, children in the Northamptonshire area were treated to a road safety message by fellow pupils at their school, news that could also impact on car insurance.
