It is not that likely speed cameras will disappear from the streets of Scotland, it has been claimed, after there were calls in Swindon for their removal. Principal Roads Engineer at Aberdeen council's road accident investigation unit Andy Duff noted that there are different regulations in England and Scotland and these will determine any moves to limit the use of cameras, reports the Press and Journal. While he said that the organisation could refuse speed camera money from the government this might not help in the long run, remarks that might interest those with car insurance. He commented: "We are still fully signed up because we are convinced safety cameras are doing a good job of reducing accidents where speed is a major factor." The council is in fact looking at ways that it can sufficiently expand the use of speed cameras in the future, he added. It was reported earlier in the week that car drivers in Cumbria were snapped by a speed camera in error.
