A new survey by the insurance company Elephant.co.uk has shed light on the most bizarre claims made by car insurance customers in the UK. The research reveals that as well as road risks from fellow drivers, motorists should also be on the lookout for potential hazards in the form of rowdy passers by, animals and even vegetables. A naked pedestrian sparked one car insurance claim after he jumped on the bonnet of a passing vehicle, while a pile of decomposing carrots prompted another when a motorist skidded on them. One driver made a claim after a Harrier jet crashed nearby and caused his windscreen to melt and another filled her car with shampoo after mistaking it for a container of petrol, Elephant.co.uk said. But animals appear to cause the most damage, with car insurance claims resulting from nut-throwing squirrels, kicking camels and horses sitting on the bonnet. Brian Martin, Managing Director of Elephant.co.uk, said: "These strange incidents go to show drivers need to be aware of their surroundings all the time." Insurance group Admiral, which owns Elephant.co.uk, has warned that car insurance premiums are likely to rise over the coming years.
