The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has insisted it is "determined" to crack down drivers who continue to flout the law by driving without valid car insurance. Lorraine Preston, the organisation's communications assistant, said police and the MIB are working together to tackle the problem. "Some people don't see uninsured driving for the crime that it is and the police and the MIB along with government are determined to change both the perceptions and behaviour of the uninsured into those of honest motorists," she remarked. Her comments come after statistics published by the MIB revealed that there are around two million vehicles on UK roads that are not covered by car insurance policies. They also showed that large towns and cities have a higher proportion of uninsured drivers than rural areas, with Barkerend in Bradford named as the most problematic area. Ms Preston warned that the decision to drive without car insurance carries with it "unacceptable costs", both in terms of finance and human life.
