The date on which a driver was born could determine how likely they are to have an accident or pick up a motoring conviction and hence claim on their car insurance, it has been claimed. According to research carried out by the insurance provider elephant.co.uk, motorists born in December pose the greatest risk on the road. Indeed, the birthdates of December 9th, 18th and 24th all appeared in the top ten list as those of motorists most likely to have suffered an accident or had points added to their licence. Meanwhile, drivers born on the first of the month in February, March, June, August and September were found to be among the safest. Commenting on the research, Brian Martin, Managing Director of elephant.co.uk, emphasised: "Motorists don't have to worry, date of birth isn't one of the factors we rate on and we won't be refusing cover for those born on the unlucky dates." Earlier this month, a survey by car insurance company swiftcover.com revealed that 79% of drivers risk higher premiums by driving beyond the legal speed limit when on the motorway.
