British drivers consider themselves to be the safest in Europe, according to a new survey.
Motorists in Britain feel safer on the roads than their European counterparts and also believe they are better drivers, new research shows.
According to a survey by swiftcover.com, some 92% of British motorists feel safe while they are driving, compared to the European average of 72%.
This is perhaps because 64% of Brits believe they drive better than motorists elsewhere in Europe, while 41% think there is stricter law enforcement on British roads.
The survey also shows that drivers in Britain appear to have more awareness when it comes to road safety, potentially helping them avoid making costly car insurance claims.
Indeed, 92% of British respondents said using a mobile phone while driving is unsafe, compared to 85% of those from the rest of Europe.
Similarly, driving under the influence of alcohol was cited as dangerous by 92% of British drivers, compared to 85% of other Europeans.
Last month, the UK government proposed the introduction of harsher punishments for motorists caught speeding.
