Slough tops accident hotspot lists

9 December 2008

Motorists in Slough are more likely to make claims on their car insurance than drivers in other UK towns and cities, new research shows.

According to a report compiled using motor claim data from Endsleigh Insurance Services, the Berkshire town is the UK's number one accident hotspot, the Telegraph reports.

Some 49% more car insurance claims are made by drivers in Slough than the national average. This is followed by Ilford in east London, where the number of claims is 44% higher.

In contrast, Belfast is shown to be the safest place in the UK, with claim numbers totalling 44% below the national average.

Endsleigh spokeswoman Rhiannon Harris said: "Our report highlights that some towns and cities represent a greater risk for motorists than others. However, it is important that motorists throughout the country are extra vigilant at this time of year."

Recent research carried out by swiftcover.com revealed that 64% of British motorists believe they drive better than their European counterparts.
