The government must consider a car scrappage scheme in order to help the country's manufacturing industry by giving buyers incentives for getting their hands on a new car, it is believed.
According to the AA, a recent poll it conducted revealed a quarter drivers would be interested in the scheme, which would restore confidence in the market.
Mark Huggins, Director of AA Personal Loans, says: "I believe it would be a popular move and would allow many families to buy their first brand new car.
"But the uncertainty means some potential buyers are putting off their purchasing decisions."
He also reveals the economy is often crucial to people's car buying decisions, with the proposed scheme just one way of boosting sales at a time when it is needed more than ever.
The AA claimed last week that an increase in fuel duty on April 1st would lead to a 2.12 pence rise at the pump for consumers. Looking for car insurance on your new motor? Compare prices now.
