Cars 'becoming homes for many Britons'

26 March 2009

The car is where some people spend most of their time, according to a new survey.

Findings compiled by Admiral show one in five London motorists are in their cars more than their homes, compared to just one in ten in Scotland.

Additional statistics suggest people enjoy being alone in their vehicles, with 62% of the 3,000 respondents claiming they like driving solo rather than with other passengers.

"Drivers could be finding themselves spending so much time in the car because they have a long commute, or thanks to congestion on the UK's busy roads," observes Admiral Managing Director Sue Longthorn.

She believes people often look for "solace" in their cars, with the statistics showing men are three-times more likely to spend excessive amounts of time in vehicles than women.

Diamond recently revealed that 84% of motorists spend up to 80 minutes a day commuting to work. Compare car insurance policies online now.
