Car insurance policies 'need to be suited to personal needs'

6 May 2009

Drivers in search of new car insurance policies need to ensure the product meets their individual needs, one expert says.

Features such as being able to drive other people's cars might be of benefit to some people, suggests Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, whereas foreign use may not be as crucial.

"If you want to go on the internet looking for yourself, just read the small print, read the detail," he advises.

Mr Trudgill believes fraudulent claims made on car insurance are particularly causing problems at the moment.

Earlier this year, the AA suggested that car insurance premiums are set to rise throughout the rest of 2009, with the slight fall at the start of the year accredited to the large number of policies taken out.
